It means people have voted the question as "interesting". You are currently on level 1 so you can also vote up to 10 stars per day for questions you think deserve it. Just click on the little star symbol when you see the question pop up in the question list.

You only get a star when you ASK a question...the folks who answer get a thumbs up or a thumbs down (liked/didn't like) and maybe get chosen for "best answer"...
It's the person who asks an interesting question who gets a star from me; OR perhaps a person wondering who/what/why--like you! So here's a star!

when the Asker does not chose best answer then these stars become votes and their good percentage gives 10 points
