A paragraph explains another aspect of the general theme of the piece of work. There are 3 types of paragraph: (1) Block paragraph. The first line of the paragraph is level with the lines that follow. The paragraph has, thus, the shape of a block. (2) Indented paragraph. The first line is "stepped" in from the para's left edge for a distance equal to about 5 characters. (3) Hanging paragraph. The first line extends beyond the para's left edge for a distance equal to about 5 characters. The first line is "hanging" over the para's left margin or edge.
