My parents never really told me anything except not to have sex and that periods were normal. They're very religious so they took me out of sex ed classes in grades 7 and 8. I had to go to the library and use the internet to learn the very basics about puberty and sex.

My parents did like to touch on their moral opinions when it came to sex, none of which appealed to me.

In high school my parents put me in abstinence training classes which were done by Christians and absolutely horrifying. Not only was false information about sexually transmitted diseases given and scare tactics about the 'emotional consequences' but the shear level of misogyny when it came to female sexuality was probably abusive, of course I recovered, but I rebel against given common knowledge. "Boys have sex because it feels good. Girls have sex because they love boys." Oh please.

I think you should tell kids around the age of 10 especially if you have a girl. It really sucks getting a period or pubic hair and not knowing the biological reasons.

In these times, the sooner, the better. Children are experiementing earlier and earlier. When you do, do as I did. Add the part about HIV, and other veneral diseases. I laid it on pretty thick, but it worked. Try to start the conversation little by little. Give just a bit of info when they are about 12, and they will ask for more info. Encourage them to come to you and ask more questions when they have them. Good Luck. Teenage years are very trying.

I've never hidden the facts of life. When my son had the human growth and development movie at school, he already knew most of it. They had more clinical stuff while I've told them about more real-life stuff. I don't just bring it up randomly, they usually ask me questions because of something they've seen or heard. I keep it appropriate, so don't worry people.

I was twelve, but I've heard of young little minors getting pregnant and not even know what they were doing so I guess the best time to tell you're kids would be 10 at the less?

Heheh.... my parents never told me, only after I found out myself. Its easier that way. I found out a few months before I turned 12. My mum's concerned, but I believe its no biggie.

form the very start that a child is born, he/she already knows the facts of life... it now depends on the parents to teach him/her wat is right and wrong. just like buying him/her a toy or going to church or a movie, going to a party... and all those.
