Although I burst into song myself occasionally, I'm not keen on vocals unless it's choral, hymns, C&W. or some from musicals.
Liked to listen to Sing Something Simple and watch The Black & White Minstrel Show, joining in, of course. Still like big band, and Glenn Miller.

Top of my list is classical, but not opera!
Lurking somewhere in the old 78's, between the Beethoven and Tchaikovsky is a collection of Johnny Mathis. They haven't been played for years - I think you need someone to share them with.

Never was much of a pop fan, but there are a few instrumentals I like.
The stuff I really can't stand is the boom boom noise that comes out of youngster's cars and bedrooms. I really must be old!

You are like most of us... The music of our youth tends to remain our favourite kind of music for life... In my case it was the swing bands of the 40's, the jazz(modern) of the 50's and the ballads and singers of that time As you say Johnny Mathis, Tony Bennett, Al Martino,Nat King Cole and the greatest of them all Ella Fitzgerald... Bands like Stan Kenton and artists like Dave Brubeck ,Miles Davis, Charlie Parker and too many others to mention.. Mustn't forget George Shearing. Not much decent music has been written since the r1960's..Most modern music and songs are horrible.

Hi Florence. I remember my grandad listening to Sing Something Simple when I was a teen. Wasn't very impressed at the time. lol! but I must have grown up a bit cos I quite like that sort of music now.

Almost anything played on the pan pipes or electric harp or guitar gets my vote now. Along with Country and Western, 60's pop, military brass bands, I like some hymns too.
Not forgetting the little girl next door when she comes in and sings me the nursery rhymes she learns at school.!

Ok I know I go on a bit, but you did ask! lol x

Have a blind spot for Jazz, can take it or leave it. Ballet music is OK but don't care to see it live (all those feet thudding on the stage), Like classical, love musicals, particularly Evita (best lyrics in a musical for many an age). As for Pop, well like most of my generation, like sixties stuff but open to any good music.Love Streisand, Darin and Esther Ofarim (best rendition of " she's leaving home") Joe Cocker in small doses but catholic in my tastes, strangely enough, stopped listening for a few years but back again. Can even stomach the occasional Country and Western.

I'm a Country and Western Buff, I taught 8 classes a week of Linedancing untill a few years ago and attended the big Country Festivals along with most of the people in my classes. Then my knees went and I had to get knee replacement ops ( still got 1 to get ) and I had to stop. (sob).
But I listen to C&W most of the time when I'm at home, in fact I'm tuned into CMT Radio on the computer while I'm answering these questions, lol.

I like soft rock and the blues. I like 50's, 60's and 70's music the most. I don't like that boom boom booming sound either. I will walk out of a shop if it's playing that mucic.
