You can buy ram from any computer store. The most common type nowadays are DDR2. DDR3 is already out there which is twice as fast as DDR2 but it is still very expensive. Wait till next year. The size varies from 512MB,1GB,2GB & 4GB. To install a ram stick, open your casing and look for 4(usually) identical long slot(DIMM slot) on your motherboard.Put the ram on the slot & lock the clip. When you boot your pc,the ram is automatically detected and your memory capacity will increase.

1. find out how much RAM your motherboard/computer can accommodate from it's manufacturer.
2. to get best performance, try to max out your computer's RAM (2GB or 4GB on most computers, and 2GB would be ample for the average-moderately demanding users)
3. Buy the RAM sticks.. DO NOT GET RIPPED OFF!!>>
to get the best (often kept secret) prices, go to either:
deals2buy.com OR
dealigg.com
and search for RAM.
(look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR2 for an overview)
4. Finally, to install your RAM, just use the tutorial available here:

it's easy with pics.
