I'm not sure if I believe in ghosts or not. It sounds like someone's running up my stairs when noone's in the house, but I live in a rowhouse and it might be echoing from the people next door. But, one time something pounded on my bedroom door over and over when noone else was home. I can't figure out a rational scientific explanation for that one....
Has anyone else had something happen that can't seem to be explained?

PS The person that lived in the house before me died of a gas leak in the laundry room and was there for 2 weeks before anyone found him. That's kinda why I think there might be a ghost.

I'm a paranormal investigator, Seen way too many things. Even if what you have is an actual haunting, you shouldn't worry. Probably doesn't even know you're there. If it does get too bothersom with the noise, you can try asking it to leave, or if you feel threatened, get a church involved, but it also could be the neighbor's noise echoing. Hard to explain the pounding on your door though.

Very interesting. I spent a few years ghost hunting in Arkansas and Kentucky and yours is not an isolated case.

Concerning the sound of someone knocking on your door. Pay close attention: Does this happen when your A/C or Heater is kicking on? Are there any windows open in the house at the time? I remember one time I could have SWORN that someone was trying to come into a room where I was, but on further examination, I realized that the draft caused by the central ventilation causes the door to bang inside of its facing. (The door, when closed was not a tight fit. There was a small gap and one could shake the door, though it was closed.)

The noise of someone running up your stairs can be a number of things. It could be, as you mentioned, noises from your neighbors. Or worse!! It could be mice or rats or another animal. I have experienced it all!

The important thing is to eliminate ALL possible options and explanations BEFORE you start to consider a haunting. You might even have to hire an exterminator to go through your attic and sub flooring. Only after that should you consider a paranormal explanation.

You may have a ghost. Haters, as usual, are going to be negative about the whole idea, but who knows?

I work at a haunted college. Its very hard to explain obvious, purposeful pounding on doors, windows, and walls when nobody is around but you...or you and a co-worker. We've tried to explain it away, even calling ourselves crazy, until we heard complaints from other staff and students about the same thing. Honestly, if somebody can come up with a rational, logical explanation for it, I'd be happy to listen. I'd especially like the haters out there to try to give possible explanations (real ones, not idiocy) instead of trash talking and throwing out negativity. Yes, this is a challenge. Keep in mind that NOBODY other than one or two people are around, and the building is thoroughly checked and locked down by security (us). Use logic or science if you don't want to believe in the paranormal. This would answer questions for a lot of us.

They are benign and cannot hurt you; they are lonely so you might consider saying hello and aking how they are doing. In my family house in the country doors open and close, lights are turned on and off, TV gets turned on at three in morning, footsteps are heard on stairs when nobody else is there, yadda. My daughter and her children live there now and I warned them about this so they accept it. It is sort of like having a guard or sentry on duty.

First you need to research the history of the building. second investing in a EMF meter (electro Magnetic Field) would help. Also if you have a camcorder with nightvision or tape recorder with mc is also useful to record the sounds.
No not get scared trying to find out a cause of paranormal can be intresting and rewarding. Weather you believe, half believe, or don't believe at all the experience can be intresting.

It could be a ghost if there's no other explanation. I'd get some professional advice from a parapsychologist or someone who can come check out your apartment with the right equipment. If you're afraid, move out. I think I would- I'm a total chicken. :)

Talk to them, tell them to leave but before you do, do a recording.

Ask them questions like "are you male, knock once for male, twice for female". Make sure you set up a good camera and tripod for proof.

Did you try opening the door , you would have got the answer.
Next time open the door, ask who is it and what do they want and see if you get any answers.
