I noticed the same thing and it's really really sad. The nice ones who try to help get walked on by the very people they're trying to help. Sucks, but not much you can really do about it without becoming like them. I just try to use caution before I help someone and I set my priorities in order before I agree....making sure that it won't hurt me or my kids to help them, even if this person turns out to be a jerk afterwards. Even if they are nasty to you after you help them, your conscience will be clean because you will have done your best to be a good person and that's all anyone can or should ask of another.
As for the narrow-minded, ignorant people who seem to be heard much more often than the sensible ones...don't let them bother you. Just realize that they are only the loudest voice because they are the least confident in what they say, so they think if they say it loud enough and long enough, they can one day be proven right. But as you said, these people are ignorant and if they get angry at someone speaking the truth, then their goal should be to change what the truth is by being a better person or improving whatever situation is out of whack.
Ugh. Hope my answer was clear in spite of my roundabout way of saying it? In essence, what I mean to say is to just be true to who you are, be true to YOUR nature and live by that code as much as possible. Even though you'll often meet a lot of fools out there, there are also a lot of good people too. You just have to know where to look.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

The ego is such a fragile thing....so easily damaged. The old saying, "The truth hurts" is derived from EXACTLY your explanation in your question. However, rubbing a "truth" in someone's face is no better than that someone rubbing their "belief" in yours. Always back up truths with facts, no opinions. Reasonable people will eventually see the light.
And, you're right....in this "me first" society, disrespect is running rampant, with no signs of slowing down.
Stay strong, play nice, and respect your neighbor.

I like to hear the truth. There is nothing more powerful in the universe than the truth. And yes, sometimes the truth hurts, but that is simply the pain of change. You can't be scared of it, you just have to deal with it if you want to advance.

some people are just too proud in their religion that they don't care if they have the truth or not. They think having a Bible in their houses enough.
Not only that, the Bible mentions Satan is blinding people, and can't see the truth. =] Hope this helps.

In my experience, i found some people to be very comfortable in what they believe in, anything else would affect their entire life or believe system which they would not easily adjust to. i think they just don't want to feel confused or conflicted by other possibilities even if it were to be true....to them, ignorance is bliss.

Truth Hurts. That's why... It could be because people don't want to leave their delusions (comfort) but it could be because some truths are just downright terrifying.
