They don't care about our children; they only care about profit taking. We need to work to get products labeled with country of origin so we can make better decisions. We need to renegotiate our trade deals with China and other countries so that the workers there are paid a living wage, have health and other benefits and hold other countries to the same standards that we are held to here. The bonuses of CEOs should also be tied not only to corporate profits but to product quality and recall costs. The CEO of Mattel got a $2.5 million bonus last year because their stock went up. However, if the company had factored in the approximately $30 million that the recalls will cost the company, then his bonus would have been ZERO.
These are the types of steps that will actually protect our children, and it's up to us to take them.

You seem to know the answer to your own question...are American consumers willing to pay 1.5 times for same product made in USA? Also no guarantee will not ever have a quality control issue here as well.
The interesting here to me is the top guy at Chinese plant committed suicide over the issue. They still have high degree of honor and respect and this caused great embarrassment to him and his family.
I doubt very much any American CEO would do same.

It would cost Mattel too much. They are business who's primary goal is the increase of their profits. This is done by doing work outside of the US where they can pay employees a substantially lower wage.

back in those days, we did not have unions with ever-achieving calls for and ever-increasing company taxes and salary regulations. Coincidentally, the places that savor stable production bases have not got those issues at present the two. i'm not concerning the 1970's, yet in extra contemporary situations, what has made it much less complicated to fabricate in overseas international locations is the actuality that it is much less complicated to import products now. back whilst it wasn't as undemanding to import products, manufacturers had to factor interior the fee to deliver a product to work out if it replaced into priceless to relocate. additionally, unfastened commerce and the reducing of protectionist tarriffs has extra incentivized businesses to save around for the main suitable deal they are able to get with appreciate to the place they perform. an excellent style of individuals want in charge somebody else, or blame the politicians, yet we've in basic terms ourselves in charge for the state of generating interior the U. S. at present.
