just follow your heart or intuition. if they are lying, and you help them, at least your intentions were pure.

Good ,thoughtful, provoking Question, to be honest i would just give them something anyway because sometimes there is no way of telling, if you dont give because you believe they are fraud without being 100% sure then you kind of feel even a bit of guilt, but at least with giving something you have some concience, first i would see the state of their healthy, their appearance, then again people can make their appearance look poor so as i said sometimes there is no way of telling, but i would personally just give anyway, if they are fraud then they will feel a bit guilty, maybe not then but later on in life, & i believe in God so i will believe that God will punish them a bit for being a fraudster when truly there are genuine poor people out there & some its no fault of their own so if anyone is going to feel bit of shame it will be the fraudsters.

You know there's really no need to beg. They have food shelters, housing programs, job placement, and even free job-training, social networks, medicaid, medicare - If they ask you for money it's always a no. If they ask for food, then give em' some, but if you really want to walk a mile in his shoes, ask him about his situation and learn his story - that way you can make an informed decision and maybe even a friend.

I'm always willing to give someone food.
Money - i go on my gut feeling.
There isn't a good way that i know of to tell if someone is sincere or a fraud.

Lived in a bad area of a city for several years, and so did a friend of mine. He got tired of the locals ringing his doorbell asking for money to buy diapers for the baby, and purchased one package of every size diaper available. EVERY person who rang his bell asking for "diaper money" REFUSED to take home diapers!!

I don't give money to beggars, to many con artists or lazy ba***rds out there and they all seem to come one after another.
I believe that charity collections are the best way forward for them.

If it's a homeless person, I give them some money and don't worry about the other stuff.

Why try to differentiate? Obviously they need it, especially if they're begging for food.

That's why I rarely give money. I usually give food. Can't buy crack with an apple, right?
