It's shorter & quicker to text.

Well, I can understand some of it texting on a phone cause that takes a long time sometimes to spell out all the words but why do it on here too? I have no clue why people spell like this on here. I guess like you said they think it's cool but sometimes it gets on my nerves just trying to figure out what the heck they are saying. You got to admit sometimes it's hard to read or just really annoying. Sometimes I just go to another question cause I'm not in the mood to decode it all.

Couldn't say for sure, I've never texted anyone before, but I can say I certainly wouldn't talk like that if I did... Mostly because my IQ is higher then 12

its easier to rite words how they sound and its faster to rite like that w/o worrying about grammar when no one rele cares neway. we dont do it cuz its cool, it has nothing to do with that at all. we do it cuz its not worth the effort when ur only talking to friends about pointless stuff online. save the proper english for school work. it's prolly more effort for adults to rite like this only cuz they don't do it everyday. and besides, texting on fones wud take FOREVER if we spelled everything rite.

i don't mind the shorten words. txt, u, r, 4, etc. that makes sense... but the weird spelling, that are just as long if not longer than the actual word are annoying.

im too freakin old to be tryin to keep up with that crap. I text most everything normal and abbreviate a few things (ur,ppl, b, 2). one of my friends always text me like that and it takes me a while to figure it out, lol.

They don't really know how to spell, so they spell it like that to seem like they misspell on purpose.
