No. The law prohibits us from encouraging mendicants in the streets. I think this is a good enough reason. It will also teach those who are still able and physically fit to find work instead of asking from passersby. Giving alms will only abet laziness I know.

I am a Pastor who has lived here for 4 years, and the answer is, No I do not,for several reasons...

1. It is against the law
2. I have seen the adults running rings of these kids to ask forigners for money.
3. There has been too many times I or my wife have offered to get them someing to eat and they refuse or through it down insisting on the money.
4. I will still offer to get them something to eat if they really look like they are hungry, but if they get picky, I walk away.
5. Alot of the kids use the money for internet games
6. Alot of the adults use it for beer or smokes.
7. If you live here long enough you know which people in your own communities need the help.
8. Most of them know I understand what they are doing and even smile when I tell them...

I had, although it would probably not total over 10 times.

I know its against the law so I don't give as much as I would want to & if Im pretty sure that the money will probably just go into scoring dope or will be used to place bets on games of chance. I have had given out food & drinks a handful of times as well.

& I had also doled out food & spare change to beggars in other countries.

In the past. But I have learned my lesson well enough. They don't accept piso anyway =D

The kid could be part of a large-scale begging syndicate or he/she could buy it for drugs/rugby. You never know where the money goes.

Now I only give food to child beggars. And honey, I'm not talking about leftovers or food with even just one bite out of it.

I usually pick which ones to give. Yes, most of the times.

I just remember one instance when I was under the overpass at Mantrade, Makati. A small boy approached me for alms. I do not have any money left in my pocket except for a beinte-singko. (25 cents). I gave it to him and surprise, he threw it away and said p-----------na, ano aabutin nito. But it did not stop me from giving alms. (sorry for the story)

Cheers.

We shouldn't give alms. We all know it doesn't go to these poor people, and they are just being used by gangsters to earn money without exerting effort themselves. Imagine yourself looking at the bad people behind these poor people so you will learn how to stop giving.

no i don't because some if not all are run by syndicates where in they let the children do the work like begging or even selling sampaguita or rags. but at the end of the day the money goes to an adult and the children are left with nothing.

Yes, especially to the old people who don't have any homes. They must not be there on the streets. They are not fit there. They are in need of a home and a family that loves them unconditionally. It really bothers me when I see them begging and even sinning just to have something to survive.

I do it VERY DISCRETLY.
Sometimes, it breaks me to see them lying
down on the walkway, shivering during rainy days n looking hungry.
Sometimes, i just shooshhhhh them away.
Most of the times, i would buy them foods instead of giving monies.
But , many of them carry little babies along when they beg ..... look at the babies' condition .... really "soften my heart"
