i just came from las vegas and couldn't see the moon there. now, i am california still can't see the moon! where is it?

I was wondering about that myself just a few minutes ago and I went and checked. Right now it's coming up during the morning.
Rises: 8:56 AM (CDT)
Sets: 9:16 PM (CDT)

New Moon was on Sunday, so the Moon is currently a narrow crescent visible low in the west just after sunset. This is what it does every month!

Because when it's night in L.A., that doesn't mean that the moon is over L.A. The moon is in orbit around the Earth, if it happens to be night time in L.A., the moon could be over Europe, however that doesn't mean that the Europeans can see it; it's daytime in Europe, the sun is out, so they can't see it.

Day or night, it doesn't matter. the only time you can't see it is when it is on the other side of the earth. Oh, yes you can see it in daylight. And of course you can't see it's when it's cloudy.
