An infection of Group B Strep can occur at any age regardless of whether one has had sex or not. I'm a 35 year old virgin and get this myself from time to time. We naturally carry a bit of a bacteria called strep in our body already but sometimes it can occur where it gets out of hand to create an infection and cause pain and other symptoms for the woman (it's happened to me before that I've gotten pain from this infection til it's treated with antibiotics).

The only real time it presents a problem as far as doctors are concerned is if a woman is pregnant. So when she goes in to labor they give her antibiotics to help protect the baby. Sometimes doctors won't treat Group B Strep in a non-pregnant woman. Every doctor is different though.
