Yes. they're very independent but also very loving. My cats will go off on their own alot of the time but they also spend much of their day curled up in my lap, or nudging me for some attention. They hate everyone else but us so I guess that makes them pretty loyal ...to us anyway.

It depends on what you mean by 'loyal'. It's true that if allowed outdoors, some cats will find someone they like better. That happened to one person I know with every cat he had (it was an ex-boyfriend, so I don't think so much of him either!). I think if you don't give them the amount of affection they want, this could happen. If they stay indoors, you get a chance to get used to each other's styles, and their affection and trust and emotional dependence builds-- on both sides! I think 'loyal' is a misplaced word for animals, because the opposite of 'loyalty' is 'betrayal', and that's something that probably only humans can do (aside from the example of a cat wandering off).

And then there are certain cats who only like their owners and are hostile to anyone else (or simply tolerate anyone else). Perhaps this is the 'dark' side of loyalty, but it certainly seems to count.

In short, I think they are much more attached to us than their demeanor shows. So, in the sense that you probably mean it, yes, I do believe they are loyal.

Hi Sweetie,

First off, I am a crazy cat lady. Most of my feline friends have been loyal. Spay and neutering is a key though. Tom cats may be the sweetest little kittens, but once they get to maturity, they may roam too much. Always treat them with love and gentleness. And you have a friend for life! Good Luck!

I don't know about cats in general but my boy waits for me by the door when I get up in the morning, he sits on the vanity while I do my make up, and he is waiting at the door for me when i get home. He spends his time snuggling and will follow me around the house. i think he is loyal...

Cats are loyal to the hand that feeds them and thats it. They are affectionate, thats just thier personality. I have one and she is a big sook. but i reckon if the neighbour started feeding her, her loyalties would be to them

I think at some points, they are. One thing for sure GET SOME DOGS !!!!!!!!!! ,will ya? Cats are damn irrogant. They will come to you when they are hungey and simply walk away from you when they 're done eating. Go with DOGS,my friend. No animal will ever greet you everyday you come home as if you have gone for months just like DOGS.

They are more independent animals. They like to wander off by themselves. But they come back to their owners every now and then. I think they wander off to hunt for food or something, but who knows what they do?
