Many consider Willie Mays the greatest fielder ever, and 12 Gold Gloves is difficult to argue against.

Willie Mays. Mays played in an era where there was more talent to challenge him, hence his very best was brought out on a consistent basis. Ty Cobb played in an era that was watered down by segregation, hence the numbers against inferior competition. Mays was outstanding defensively, and while people will bring up Cobb plaing in the Dead Ball Era, the Tigers great would have provided about as much power as Tony Gwynn anyway, dead ball or not. For my money, I would go with the greatest five-tool talent not named Barry Bonds.

Willie Mays. You never see any highlights of Ty Cobb in the field, only hitting and base running. I have to believe that makes him an average defensive player. Willie has many highlights on both O and D.

Willie Mays! He was so popular in the day. I will never forget that basket catch he made. Wow! Truly one of the best players to play the game. Mays was way ahead of his time!

Willie Mays was the best ever; and the Giants' moving to SF actually hurt his career. Candlestick winds held down his home run total.
But, you had a greedy owner who turned his back on New
York City.
