A Million is written as 1,000,000
A Billion is written as 1,000,000,000,000
however the Americans as always changed this to seem richer and made a Billion 1000 million instead of a million million.
Typical.

In US notation: 1+ 6 zeros =1,000,000= 1 Million. 1+9 zeros= 1,000,000,000= 1 Billion.

In your example 1,111M equals One Billion One Hundred and Eleven Million One Hundred Thousand, or 1.11B, or 11.1M.

Out of curiosity , why do you ask? Cider could use some funding.

1 million = 1,000,000 or more economically, 10^6.

If you're American, 1 billion is a thousand million, that is 1,000,000,000 or 10^9. If you want to use M for "a million," then your American billion would be simply 1,000 M.

If you're English or other European, 1 billion is a million million, that is 1,000,000,000,000 or 10^12. THAT billion would then be 1,000,000 M, or conceivably M M should you wish to employ that. (Ah, M & M --- time for a chocolate break!)

Because of the possibility of using a "B" to mean the (internationally ambiguous) "billion," physicists instead use energy units like MeV for a million electron volts, but GeV for 10^9 electron volts, thus escaping the "B-trap."

Note that further extensions of the number system get even more out of whack between Americans and Europeans as terms like trillion, quadrillion etc, are separated by only factors of a thousand for Americans, but a million for Europeans.

(You might want to look up "Large numbers" on Wikipedia or other such site.)

Live long and prosper.

P.S. A remarkable amount of passion and denunciation is being exhibited by people arguing over the different uses of the word "billion" on opposite sides of the Atlantic. That sheer unwillingness to acknowledge that other people may do things differently is at the root of much intolerance in this world. Look, everyone: lighten up, get a grip, and accept what only a modicum of thoughtful reading or reflection should convince you is true --- that beyond the commonly agreed term "million," the term "billion" means different quantities in different parts of the world.

Incidentally, in the second-most populated part of the world, India, a very different system is used for numbers beyond a THOUSAND. The LAKH is one hundred thousand (i.e. 10^5), and the CRORE is ten lakhs (i.e. 10^7). The term million is not employed, and there are new names at intervals of powers of 100 (i.e. 10^2) for quantities beyond a thousand, the lakh and crore merely being the first two such terms.

writing the value in its scientific notation for the following values:
one million - 1 x 10 to the exponent of 6 = 1,000,000
one billion - 1 x 10 to the exponent of 9 = 1,000,000,000

1,000,000 = one million.(6 zero's) 1*10^7 AKA 1M
1,000,000,000=one billion(9 zero's) 1*10^10
difference of 3 zero's. AKA 1B

BETH G, YOU ARE AN IDOIT! (12 zero's is one trillion you idoitatic moron)

ONE TRILLION IS 12 ZERO'S=1,000,000,000,000. 1*10^13 AKA 1T
