When I owned my cleaning business, if you were late more than a couple times, you were fired.

I told my employee's, you expect your pay to be on time and I expect you to be on time.

Being crazy about being on time actually makes your life a lot easier. First of all, you learn to budget your time and to approximate times very accurately. It becomes second nature and you don't freak out every other day about being late for something.

Secondly, people regard you as dependable and they give you jobs, invite you to parties, take you to the movies or to a ballgame, and so forth, instead of someone else who is known to be a sloppy timekeeper and a hassle.

It's matter of self esteem and, show your respect to the other party. I've lived with those that say "they can wait" but, does this show any self respect for others? I think not. I'd rather be twenty minutes early and, wait then late.

all good answers so far. I would like to say that being on time is also a matter of respect for the person you're about to meet.
