I got in trouble with the law about 2 yrs ago..a misdemeanor (disorderly persons), I was wondering if collegess give criminal background checks. Please help. Thanks

Not usually for students. They often do for employees. A misdemeanor of this type, though, especially if you were very young, is not usually a problem.

It's not likely if you're just going to be a student. If they suspect that there is a problem, they could check your record. If you decide to work on campus, they may also ask if you have ever been convicted before. Also, perhaps if you dorm at the school, that may ask you.

They are just looking out for the best interest of the students as well as the faculty and staff of the school. I'm sure if they felt that you were a threat, they would've already found out by now. I wouldn't worry about it. If an administrator confronts you about it, don't deny it by hiding the facts. Work with them to prove that your past actions should not be used against you. You are trying to right what ever wrongs you may have been involved with in the past.
