Since you've been together 3 years, I'm sure you can talk about almost everything, including intercourse.
Are you both virgins?
It might help, if he wasn't. He could help guide you.
But if he isn't, as long as you both take your time & he is patient with you, you'll be fine. It would also help, if you know what you like by self exploration. If you still have your hymen intact, this might be a little uncomfortable & bleed a little.
Women's hymen sometimes break through vigorous exercise.

I've got no experience that way, but I'll tell you why. You may think I'm completely nusto and insane because of this, but I promise I'm normal and not a fanatic. I'm a Christian, and we believe that you shouldn't have sex outside of marriage. If you break up with this guy someday, you'll have had sex and not be with the one you had it with anymore. What if he impregnates you accidentally one day by forgetting a condom, or ripping it? I know to you this might sound real old fashioned, but why not get married? Yes it's a lot of hassle, and you've probably got university, but it's all worth it. I've been to SOOO many weddings, and they're beautiful, so fun, and the bride and groom always look so joyful. Also, they are legally registered to be together in a very special bond. Marriage is so much happier than just living together.

Personally for me, it didn't hurt. I had a tiny spotting of blood the next day but no discomfort. I was 19 so maybe I was older with more 'active' hormones I'm not sure. If this is the case I would certainly put you in the same category. You and your partner obviously care a lot about eachother and I'm sure you've had plenty of sexual urges, enough to make the whole process go a lot smoother probably! I don't think you've got anything to worry about.

I have nevwr had sex so I don't know how much it hurts but if you are completly sure that you want to have sex with him then go for it. At least you know him and have been for him for 3 years. I think that that is great because some people just jump into bed with the first guy they meet. Like I said if you are both sure then do it.

it depends, what hurts is when the "hymen" breaks or tears, it might have already broken for you, it can break doing sports or horseriding or riding a bike, also using tampons can break it. make sure u get really wet first so that means plenty of foreplay, or using lubrication. some girls are born without hymens, if u dont know what it is search it on wikipedia there should be a picture on there. for me, the first time really hurt because thats when my hymen broke but after a while u get used to it, then the second time and third time only become more pleasurable.... by the way its great uve waited 3 years until thinking about having sex, really respect you x

if you are relaxed and you are totally sure that is something that you want to do....i don't think that it will be as bad as someone who was not sure and only with their mate for like a few months or so. I am not going to lie to you it is fairly uncomfortable and i even bled afterwards. Make sure that you have lubricant that is the number 1 thing!!!!! So when you go to get condoms or whatever pick up some lubricant as well...Astroglide or Ky both good brands....good luck

I first had sex at the age of 20. I made sure I was with the right one and we have been together for four years now. Sex hurt for me at first because I was tensed so it was harder for my boyfriend to insert his penis. But once you are relaxed, you will find it easier and therefore less pain. Try some vaseline, this makes your vagina more moist and sex is then easier.
Make sure you are 100% ready and good luck to you. X

if you really love him go for it, if you really feel thats what you want to do. my first time hurt a little but if youre fully turned on you wont feel as much pain. ask him to go in really slow, it will stretch as he goes so if he just puts his junk in all of the sudden he could tear something or youll feel a lot of pain. you can stretch that area out by masturbation and stuff like that so it wont hurt as bad. you dont always bleed when your hymen breaks either.

it's a sharp pain at first, but after about 5 minutes it goes away. it isn't horrible, but depending on how tight you are, you may be likely to say a few curse words (i know i did!!) and you'll bleed, but the pain really isn't gonna kill you or anything. its just a sharp pain, then it goes away after a little while. and besides, the pleasure is worth all the pain! have fun and be safe.

Laura suggested using Vaseline --- DON'T ever. You should be using a condom, so any oil based lubricant damages the latex with possible unwanted consequences. Anyway a water based lubricant such as KY works better.
