free up space on your hard drive. run a disk defragment in the system tools section go into mycomputer>control panel> system>visual settings> then turn it to performance rather than looks. if this doesn't work you may want to consider buying more RAM (random access memory) if you have below 1024 kb i suggest that would be the problem.

If your problem of being too slow is related only to your internet connection, then you can do this ...
1.) log on as Administrator.
2.) start ‐ run ‐ type gpedit.msc
3.) expand "local computer policy"
4.) then expand "administrative templates"
5.) then expand "network branch"
6.) Highlight the "QoS Packet Scheduler"
7.) on right window double click "limit reservable bandwidth"
8.) on setting tab check the "enabled"
9.) change "Bandwidth limit %" to 0
You're done.It would be a good idea to reboot after this.

If things are still too slow, you may well have exceeded your monthly download limit and they reduce your speed until the next month. Might be a good idea to call your Internet Service Provider (ISP) tech support and go through your settings with them to be sure.

Are other programs on your computer running slowly? Does it take a while for your computer to completely boot up? If so, it could be the amount of Ram that you have on your computer. You can buy 512 MB for about 30 bucks from pretty much any computer store. If thats not that case, then you probably have a bigger problem than you think. More like a virus that none of your virus removers can detect. Unless of course you have Norton.

If you're new to the Internet world, you might have gotten a connection that tells you the rate speed is, let's say, 512 KB/s. You're Never going to get this fast on your connection. I have a 384 and the regular rate speed is about 70-80. Which means that they lie to get your attention and your money. It's ok that you felt because in some RARE cases you actually DO get that speed, remember the key phrase "Up To". Thats how they protect themselves.
You might also be running P2P programs, like LimeWire, or BitTorrents, like uTorrent.

Computer speed is basically determined by its processor. Check your processor by entering the Control Panel, then into System and learn about your processor. You should also have a high RAM. Thirdly get rid of unnecessary programs and heavy folders in your system. Go to Accessories, then System Tools, then Disk Cleanup. Delete the heavy, unused files. Make sure your system is not infected by a virus! Cheers.

Try to reboot your computer. also if you have a bunch of pictures from your camera on there, or you have a bunch of songs from itunes. that could be slowing it down. i suggest looking at all of your programs and try deleting some that take up a lot of space, and you dont use.

to get there you go to start

then go to control pannel

click add or remove programs

and it will say which programs and how much space it takes up and how much you use it. if that doesnt work, it might be the computer itself....

probably not the problem, but try switching from IE to firefox. it may not speed things up any, but it will make you somewhat less vulnerable to malicious attacks.
did you defrag your HD?
do you run alot of background processes? if so get rid of as many as you can that you don't need, they really do hog resources.
Is your antivirus install and running constantly? Norton has a bad way of slowing things down in my experiences when it is runs continually in the background.

you probably have a problem with your internet connnection, just cause you have cable internet doesnt mean it will be super fast. There may be some type of problem with the connection. I would contact your internet provied and tell them to run a connection diagnostics test on your service to see if everything is running correctly.

Try disk cleanup and disk defrag.

If that doesn't work, I'd back up everything you want to keep to DVD/External Hard Drive/CD... whatever floats your boat. Then use your restore disks to format your computer, and re-install windows.

After that your computer should be like new.

I'd try defragmenting your computer. That helps me sometimes. Otherwise you might just have too much memory used up.

To defragment just go to Run and type in Defrag

Hope I helped!
