The correct answer from the soil texture triangle is that a sandy loam can have between 43 - 85% sand content (not 55 - 80% as listed above) and a sandy clay loam can have between 47 - 80% sand content. In general, a sandy loam would have more sand content than a sandy clay loam because a sandy clay loam has more clay content, but because the silt content can vary in both of these soil textures, it is possible to have a sandy clay loam with more sand content than a sandy loam.

Sandy loam is 55-80% sand, 15- 20 % clay, 0-50% silt so potentially has more sand but the two overlap.

Sandy clay loam has a range in the soil triangle ~45- 78% sand, 20-37% clay, 0-30% silt
You have to determine all three mineral particle sizes to determine your soil's texture.
