An academic historian who writes about the history of magic and occult related in a scholarly book ( don't have it on me right now to share the title) that the early Romans thought that Jesus was a magus--a magician, that is--and that his followers were magicians. He purportedly healed the sick, raised the dead to life, performed exorcisms, and performed other miracles. "Magic" was considered evil even back then and was defined as any spiritual practice or ritual that wasn't in line with the State religion. This was one of the reasons why the Romans persecuted followers of Christianity. Christians --as well as followers of other cults and religions--were considered to be threats to the world order.
The Romans also thought that early Christians practiced "dark arts" because their symbol was the crucifix (a sign of death and cruelty at that time in history. Persons practicing black magic used to rob body parts from crucified criminals at night--Romans though that Christians maybe did this, considering the symbol they chose to represent themselves). Chrfistians also purportedly performed a magical ritual whereby bread and wine were transformed into flesh and blood. So, this was all very threatening to some people in ancient times.
In time, of course. The "magic" that was a part of Christianity became religion and the tables were turned whereby everyone else's beliefs and practices were considered "magic" and evil.
For a long time in Europe, magical Christianity was a popular, kind of underground movement. It is now called esoteric Christianity and is a form of Western occultism. As for me, I like to think that Jesus was a magus.

Ok i know there are many christians out there and so am i but im not fanatic and here is just my opinion. There is no such thing as magic powers. Everything around us is made from energy and vibrations. You can learn to manipulate this energies and use them as you wish. Some people are already born with it some have to work it out the hard way. Jesus was a human being quite capable of manipulating the energy around him in order to perform certain tasks. They say that by mastering the energy around you, you could even be able to change your own DNA ok a bit far fetched but think about it, we only use 4% of our own brain..what would you be able to do if you could use 100%? Thats why you have people who can bend spoons (by manipulating heat) moving objects (telekinesis) thats all energy, and Jesus was a master of it.
