I would think so, seeing that's a huge risk to the baby, being so morbidly obese - I mean, it couldn't hurt right?? I look as if I weigh 250, but when I was 220, I looked as if I weighed 150...it's hard to explain, Im just one of those who carry their weight very well....my doctor said that I retain alot of water, and said he think 60+ pounds is water... how do I flush my system without taking diuretics and if I am pregnant what's a safe way to shed some weight in the next 9 months without straining the baby??

LOL funny that you're "guessing" I'm overweight because of eating - no actually, Im overweight because I have a 2, 3 and 4 year old...yeah, I had children back to back, and it put alot of strain on my body - secondly, I eat one time a day, which is usually dinner time, and that's usually a bowl of special K or something healthy - don't assume because i am overweight, that I stuff my mouth full of food, because that's not the case here at all - 370 pounds is alot of weight, yes, but my doctor couldn't believe it because I only look about 250...not jumping, just don't think it's fair that Im accussed of over eating because im obese - anyways, thanks for all the comments so far!!! :)

If you are just starting an exercise program as a way of improving your health during your pregnancy, you should start very slowly and be careful not to over exert yourself.

Listen to your body. Your body will naturally give you signals that it is time to reduce the level of exercise you perform.

Never exercise to the point of exhaustion or breathlessness. This is a sign that your baby and your body cannot get the oxygen supply it needs.

Wear comfortable exercise footwear that gives strong ankle and arch support.

Take frequent breaks and drink plenty of fluids during exercise.

Avoid exercise in extremely hot weather.

Avoid rocky terrain or unstable ground when running or cycling. Your joints are more lax in pregnancy and ankle sprains and other injuries may occur.

Contact sports should be avoided during pregnancy.

Weight training should emphasize improving tone, especially in the upper body and abdominal area. Avoid lifting weights above your head and using weights that strain the lower back muscles.

During the second and third trimesters, avoid exercise that involves laying flat on your back, as this decreases blood flow to your womb.

Include relaxation and stretching before and after your exercise program.

Eat a healthy diet that includes plenty of fruits, vegetables and complex carbohydrates.

Good luck

pregnancy is not the time to focus on losing weight. You can do that afterwards. As for the water retaining back off salts and soda and still to just the water and some milk. If it is high in sodium don't eat or drink it. You can excercise like take walks and such while pregnant and get your body into a better shape to make it easier to lose weight after baby comes. If you do decide you want to try to get a handle on weight gain (no loseing it just slowing the gain) then talk to your Dr about it and maybe you can see a nutritionist which can help you learn how to eat properly while pregnant. You still have to get so many calories during pregnancy for baby to grow. Good luck.

I also am heavier than I look. I guess because I am muscular and muscle weighs more than fat. When I went to my first OB appt, I asked about healthy weight gain. I am currently 225. He told me that he was going to tell me something that no woman wants to hear but that it was his job to tell me. He said you are overweight and you should not gain weight during this pregnancy. You need to eat healthy and by doing that, you will likely lose some weight (without trying). He said that if I want to have a healthy baby and cut out many risks that I have to start making good choices now. I held back the tears until I got out of the office. I cried for two hours in my car in the parking lot, I sucked it up and decided that he was right. I have lost about 5 lbs while still eating 1800 calories a day - just making sure its a good 1800 calories.

You can do it -- just make smart decisions. I know it not about overeating. And by eating one meal a day - you will not lose weight because your body will go into starvation mode and will hold onto all your fat. Plus one meal a day is not healthy for your child.

Keep your head up and do the right thing. I know you can do it! Best of luck!

well The reason why women retain water is because they intake to much salt/sodium and because there isn't enough water intake. You could safely lose weight by eating healthier. If you must have soda get diet,Use splenda instead of sugar. eat serving sizes and excercise. I walk 2 hours a week, drink diet soda and try not to eat for two. I just add more calories by adding cottage cheese or extra fruit vegis to my meals. I lost 10 pounds with 1st pregnancy, lost 25 with 2nd,and so far I have gained11 pounds this pregnancy I am 38 weeks prego. when I say I lost the pounds, I am talking about after the baby was born. about 2 weeks after birth I calculated the weight lost. Hope this makes sense and helps. Congrats on the desire to be healthy.

It would gave been best at that weight to have tried to lose some weight before conceiving. There is a very good chance you will have gestational diabetes which could be harmful to the baby and you will have to inject yourself with insulin.
If you start eating healthily for your pregnancy (ie Fresh fruit & veg, lean meats and NO junk food and soft drinks), I think you will find the weight will drop off even as your tummy grows with the baby. Eating proper healthy foods is not called being on a diet - it's called looking after yourself (and in your case your baby too)
As for retaining fluid, I do not know how you can lose that whilst pregnant. I was about 120 pounds before getting pregnant and held a lot of fluid, after I had my boy, it all disappeared though naturally.
Speak to your doctor about the fluid part - because that can also be a symptom of pre-eclampsia.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

I know that you aren't supposed to diet or try to lose weight when you're pregnant. I know that with my first I lost 10 pounds the first trimester, but that's because of bad m/s.

I would talk to your dr about it, but I don't think he will tell you it's a good idea to lose weight right now. If you want to work on your fitness, I would try to get into a walking routine, even if it's just 15 minutes a day. I don't think that would hurt anything, as long as you don't overdo it.

speaking as an overweight woman (and I totally know what you mean about not looking your weight, I'm the same way, thank goodness), you will probably lose weight while pregnant anyway. You body will want to use your natural fat stores to nourish the baby. Eat sensible (2000 calories a day max) and you can safely lose alot of weight!!! I lost over 35 lbs with my frist baby, and came home from the hospital at my highschool graduation weight!
