I'm giong back to work, when my baby is just 8 weeks old. i've found a day care lady i can afford. basically here is the situation. she is like around 40 or 50, and she has 3 grown kids ( the youngest is 14 and still lives there) and lives w/ her hsuband. they have a house across the street from our local high school. anyways, she is NOT licensed; however, she has about 4 toddler age children she watches. her whole house is set up for a day care, kids stuff in every room. she also welcomed me to drop in unannounced to check it out. i did just that and she let me right in to look around. seemed all good, there was just two things that botherd me that might seem minor. basically, she set my baby in the car seat on the kitchen table ( the manual says not to) and then the other thing was that she said " if we have an accident, it will be ok, babies bones are really flexible. when i had my daugheter ( the 14 yr old) i fell asleep with her on my lap and she rolled on the floor and everyt

I am a licensed in home day care provider. The set up of her home sounds good and that she offered to let you drop by unannounced is a plus also. One reason I am doing day care is b/c my daughter is 8 m/o and I don't want her going to daycare or a babysitters of someone I don't know until she is 2. Too many stories out there if babies getting SBS from daycare etc. The desicion is ultimatly up to you b/c its your child. Being unlicensed is probably not good b/c they dont have to report accidents and there home is not inspected by the county and among other things. More then 3 children you need a liscense.

It may sound good but you don't want anyone who is not liscensed to keep your child unless they are family or somebody you really trust. Liscensed people have the required training or else they wouldn't be liscensed, they also have liablily and thing like that. Since she is not liscensed she is not supposed keep that many kids at the same time. I would say no and the baby is so young she couldn't tell you if anything was going on or not. So it doesn't always pay to take the cheapest route. I know this may be hard but trust me it will pay off in the long run. Good Luck!!! Congratulations on the new addition.

You have to go with your gut and I think your gut is telling you to keep looking.

I personally would not put my child in this woman's care. My daughter is being watched by a (legally) non-licensed person, so that's not the biggest part of it to me... Leaving your baby in a car seat on top of the kitchen table is crazy! She should know better than that. And the accident comment is pretty horrible too!

I do not think having a license means anyone is a good daycare provider. My son was abused (as were other children) by his licensed daycare provider. The licensed provider had been licensed and doing daycare for 15 years!!! Needless to say, she lost her license after this. I have found several wonderful UNLICENSED providers.

The best sign is when they welcome unannounced visits. Trust your gut and voice any concerns with her before you hire her. She quite possibly could set your mind at ease.

Good luck!

There is NO WAY I would leave my child with this person. Anyone who tells you that if there is an accident it's ok because babies bones are flexible is a NUT JOB and you shouldn't trust her with you dog let alone your baby!!!!!

Absolutely not. Please search for a licensed day care operator. I have my degree in Early Childhood and worked in the business for years. You really need to investigate your options and make sure you have a background check done on any home daycares.

i wouldn't take her to this lady. she is not licensed , you need to ask yourself why? it's not that hard to become licensed. also the truth is that 4 toddlers are a handful so it would b difficult for her to pay attention to ur newborn.

hmmmm....that "accident" comment would make me pretty nervous too.

I think your safest move is to go with a licensed childcare provider.
