this is very complicated, you see. many theories regarding this matter has been formulated, james-lange theory, dana-cannon, etc. but as far as I'm concerned, i believe, in an objective manner, that the mind controls the feeling since emotions are controlled by the brain through the secretion of neurons, neurotransmitters, and such. feelings or emotions per se is arbitrary and may be explained as a product of neurotransmitters in the brain. but can the feeling per se explain why the mind thinks that way? this is basically a question of ultimate reason. but if you base your opinion in an objective and scientific manner of course we can say that the mind controls everything. ^_^

Our mind controls our feelings this is pretty obvious to most of us I think, but still unconsciously, it may be the other way round, i.e, our feelings control our mind. The mind, it's consciousness, feelings, mental state is all a very complex issue. You've gotta read a lot to unreveal the secrets of the mind.

It's not as simple as that. It is a three-tier thing. First info from the environment contacts our senses. Then our mind interprets it, correctly or incorrectly, and that's the advantage of education - THEN we find we either have an emotional response to it or not. Like, if the information is Oh I see a rabbit over there, we may not care. But if it's Oh, I see I'm going to have a head on collision with that truck unless I change course, then we might find ourselves having a LOT of emotional reaction. So ok, now we have some emotion going on, either due to new input or bubbling up of our own issues, relationships, etc. So the emotion wants something to happen. I want to kiss her. I want to get rid of these facking fire ants in my yard. Something. So now, again, we hand the assignment off to our intellect, our mind, and it sorts through all the possible actions it knows of and runs projections of how each thing might come out. Again, that's where it's advantageous to know more. Then, our mind comes to back to us like an assistant and says, Ok General, we can do this, this or this and I think this one here would be the most effective and least effortful. So we say ok make it happen, and our mind then gives the appropriate orders to our muscles and we carry out the plan. So input comes in through body, then mind, then emotion, and action we originate begins as emotion, then mind, then body again, in the form of our muscles carrying it out. Here's an interesting PS to that - you may not see this or agree with it until you are 50 or maybe not ever, but consider this: Since our emotional state is the origin of all our behavior, and it is, then it must be that our emotional state is the TARGET of all our behavior. Not the change we make in the environment, such as chatting up the gal or getting rid of the fire ants. It's to quell the emotional anxiety we FEEL OVER the fire ants or the wanting to kiss the gal. The proof of that is this - say you're at an airport and an announcement comes over the speaker that car with such and such license plate left its lights on. Well a thousand peole hear it, but only one guy gets the anxiety. HE goes and turns off the lights. But if say he were fleeing the country, and abandoning his car, he wouldn't care and wouldn't go turn off the lights. It's the ANXIETY it causes him that compels him to act, not the information. Otherwise everyone in the airport would go out and turn off the lights. Imagine.

I think it is both - I know that emotions are caused by chemicals in the brain.

However, even though it has not been scientifically proven/explained, I know that thinking more positively can have an effect (to a certain extent) on your emotions and because emotions are merely chemical reactions in my brain, positive thinking must affect those chemical reactions.
