I hit a dock, messed up the front hull pretty bad. I did pierce the inner hull where the gas tank and engine are however not near as bad! The repair guy said that it would be over 4000 in repair! Doesnt that seem a bit high?

It was a floating dock in the middle of a lake! I was pulling up to it but was coming straight on, so I tried to turn, and at low speed you have to give gas for it to turn, I gave it some gas but still didnt turn. We basically accelerated into a dock! I thought 4000 seemed a bit high!

Yeah, that's high. I worked in fiberglass repair in a factory for years, and for a Private repair shop on the side. Sometimes folks will jack up the price if insurance is paying. Or maybe that's all the jobs this guy takes.
Shop it around, if you can.
Things to consider:
If he's using custom matched gel-coat.
If there's more than one color involved in the repair
Replacing factory stickers/decals
If he has to take the deck off to repair the deck and hull. Sometimes getting it right is really rebuilding the third rail where the deck mounts onto the hull. Lots of labor time.
Wouldn't advise you to shop the repair at an auto body shop.
The materials, tolerances and paint (gel-coat on watercraft) are very different animals. I've fixed plenty of repairs where an auto body guy slapped some bondo in a hole. You wind up with a leaky repaired hole.
Maybe this guy is just the only one around you, huh?

HOLY CRAP $4,000! I mean first thing that damage couldn't have been done if you were moving slowly. Like one of the other answers said, if you were at a dock, your at a no wake zone 5mph. But anyway that is totally unreasonable. I just got two perfectly running great condition 1996 yamaha jetskiis with only 100 hours on each of them off of ebay for $4,000. One is a 760CC and the other is a three seater 1100CC. I mean that is very high for some fiberglass work. A brand new 3 seater 4 stroke yamaha jetskii is $8000. Shop around maybe get an estimate from someone else. It might be worth it to buy a used one that is equilvant to yours for the same price of the repair.

How the Hell did you smash the nose in pulling up to the dock in a no wake zone ????? That ski sound's "Toasted". You have too much damage to repair, the cost exceed's the value of the ski. Body shop's hit hard, I doubt you'll get a cheap repair, especially since there is no collission insurance available on those things.

I guess I will agree with virgil and agree with Haley too.
There has to be someone can do it cheaper. Dang, I can probably find another jet ski for that price and have the wrecked one for parts.

Call your local body shop, ask if they do fiberglass (aka Corvettes) You should be back in the water for a few hundred dollars. I had a girl run into the side of mine and put a pretty big crack in the hull, body shop fixed it for under 300 and you can't even see where the crack was. But yeah, 4 grand is way too much! Half the cost of a new one!

I can't say for sure. but what is the cost of a new one? I haven't seen the damage but that does sound high to me. did you get 3 estimates first? that is the only way to know for sure that it is a fair price.
