I think you're about right on with Stalin.

Collective farming. He took the one community in the country that knew what they were doing and ruined it. The farmers grew food and sold it amongst themselves and to the people, the people had food. Stalin raised the quotas, the farmers couldn't make ends meet and thus the farm was laid to waste. After Stalin was through with the farming community, six million people were dead. Starved or executed.

The military. He systematically killed off the officers and anyone that knew what the military was. When Germany invaded in WWII, the Russians were just about at the end. Luckily, for the Russians, there was a General Zhukov. He alone brought Russia back from the brink and eventually defeated the Germans.

Stalin let the peasants in the country starve to death. There was no need for these people. There was no way to feed them anyway. Any food the farming community managed to grow, went to the goverment.

Stalin was a vile, mean, paranoid person. He kept a letter of a friend who he had executed in his desk. His 'friend' asked Stalin to spare his life, Stalin refused. He took some kind of twisted enjoyment in the power he had to prolong or end life, even for friends.

Start with the following.

1) What made Stalin dangerous?
2) Who was he dangerous to?
3) Why did he lead the way he did.

Stalin was a brutal man but I'm not sure I would include him as the worst dictator. Although he ran the party like a dictator much of the population did not fear him the way the west believes.

I am not going to do your work for you by sharing all the information and history about Stalin. But here is something interesting about him. Before bed he would sign about 800 or so death warrants of peasants throughout Russia's countryside and when he would wake up in the morning the death warrants would have had been all completed.

I know Hitler was a very cruel dictator too, but I don't know, if I had to choose, it would be hard because both were very, very horrible men. Evil. But Stalin instead of winning over the crowds like Adolf did, he murdered his way up to power. Start at his young age and find out for yourself how he came into power.

The worst dictator? Not in my opinion. But then, it's your paper.
You might start with his means of having seized power after Lenin died -- anyone in his way was summarily shot.
He also encouraged Hitler and aided him by allowing his illegal military to train on Russian soil. Then Hitler stabbed him in the back and attacked Russia.
Joe Stalin was cunning and on the verge of being a paranoid. He ruled with absolute authority. Yes, he murdered millions and enslaved even more, but he did not use children as did Pol Pot.

Stalin did a lot of good? You might want to check with the 20 million people that he killed before you extol his virtues. Hitler "only" killed about 12 million. Which makes him a choir boy in comparison.

Pol Pot "only" killed 2 million but did it within a year so that keeps his name in the running.

Pol Pot or Stalin; flip a coin.

If you admit to being uninformed how did you choose Stalin?
Does your school really ask you to do something as asinine as rank evil dictators.
"Yeah like Pol Pot was pretty bad - he gets an 8.5 but Idi Amin is still leading the way with 9.25 due to his higher degree of difficulty"
