Ok so this is my daughters first real fancy dress - all the kids from Pre primary to yr 6 are having a dress up day and being a 5 yr old girl she HAS to be a princess...

I want to try and make it really special for her...

Any tips or ideas which I could use to make a one of a kind outfit... (I figure half the kids will be princesses, so it be nice for her to feel special)

she is SO excited - thanks everyone

1] a 1/2 to 3/4 sleeve old, fancy [ ruffles or lace ] blouse of mom's, as a dress
2] a gold or silver chain belt [ can double it up ]
3] jewels [ ropes of costume jewelry ]
4] gold or silver covered crown [ with 'diamonds, rubies, emeralds. sapphires, pearls ], or a tiara [ costume shop ]
5] silver or gold buckles on shoes
6] very, very curly hair
7] if she was a fairy princess she could have a set of wings
[ butterfly type ] and a wand...
8] they have patterns at the fabric stores [ my son says get her gloves or mitts if you can - princesses need those ]
9] can order costumes from Disney, etc - suggest looking on ebay, and thrift stores for discarded flower girl dresses
10] a little blush, and some clear lip gloss - pretend to 'curl' her eyelashes so she thinks she's hot stuff

for a tiara, you could use metallic silver or gold pipecleaners from a craft store, and add feathers or fake jewels to it. altho that might look kinda cheap but oh well its just dress up right?

or you could go to www.style.com look at the couture section and get creative ideas for her costume from that. she could be a couture princess! it might be hard to do that though. but thats the only thing i could think of that is really unique.

you can do the classic long white gloves and tiara.
you can go to claires or icing and get a cheap "diamond" necklace for her. and maybe some dangling earrings if shes allowed to.
(they have clip ons if she doesnt have her ears pierced.)
