I've been doing it since I was 7 years old.
I used to live in Arizona. Some friends of mine had gone way out of range in their crappy 4 wheel drive only to overheat their truck. They had no water and contacted me asking what to do. I explained to them to take off the longest piece of rubber tubing they could find, (no more than 6 feet) use the washer fluid container in the truck or another container they could find, dig a hole 3 feet deep by 3 feet wide and place the container in it and the tubing in the container, then rip the cover off their rear seat to cover the hole in the sand. They had to depress the center of the cover or plastic 3 inches from the top of the container and surround the edges of the plastic with rocks or sand. Covering this hole would create a greenhouse effect in the container and fill it with water. They used the tubing at the other end for a container on the surface to hold more water and by the next day, they had enough to drink and place in the radiator to just barely get to town.

Well I came up with a good answer for this Q. I'm not sure it could be considered "ample", but then ample is as ample does.

Yes!
I was taught by two of the very best. My grandparents taught me at a very early age how to take something and think outside the box with it. My Gramps taught me how to come back with a sharp quick answer, and Grams taught me to look at things not for what they are made, but for what they fit my life. So, now I get in trouble with my husband on a regular basis for being a smart alec and I have a baker's rack in my bathroom using it for towel storage.
Peace.
