The same type of thing happened on my 2000 Blazer which is the same as a 2001.
First....get your fuel filter and air filter changed to eliminate the possibility of restriction.
I think it was prolly dieing at idle and pressing on the gas killed it.
The car wasn't idleing at a high enough RPM to compensate for the high temps and the strain of the A/C running. Until you get the filters changed, make it a habit of putting the Blazer in "neutral" while waiting at stop lights and drive thrus. This will increase the RPMs and help out the situation.
Another tip....If the car has to crank a lot in the morning or after sitting awhile...turn the key to "on" without starting it and wait 30 seconds before you turn it to start. This will activate the fuel pump that is in your gas tank and will pressurize the system for faster starting.
Hope this helps!!

Two things to check. Idle air control (IAC) and throttle position sensor (TPS) located on the throttle body. These do not set check engine codes and are often overlooked.
