and how far away from it can you be and still be able to connect?

Mine was a linkseys and it cost about 59. I can use my laptop in my backyard about 75 foot away. If i go to the alley 150 ft away i get very low signal.

About $60 -- range is typically 400' outdoors, 200' indoors.

50-60 bucks. we just bought a linksys one ( you can get them practically anywhere, office depot, best buy) and I haven't tested the range but it goes throughout the whole house. The higher we've positioned it the better "reception" we've had.
