It's tearing me apart!!! Huge Dodger fan! One problem is injuries to their pitchers (Wolf and Jason Schmidt namely) The main problem is lack of offensive fire power. The have no real power hitters and clutch hitting is atrociuous. Listen to this stat: They are 6-97 with runners in scoring position in their last 13 games. You can't score runs without clutch hits.

It's a "hex mark" on their home jerseys and it's been bedeviling them for many seasons. From 1952 to 1996 the look of the Dodgers' home game jersey hadn't changed. White jersey, little red numbers below the blue letters, blue letters and names on the back. In 1997 they added a big "LA" onto the left sleeve of the home jersey. Here's what happened to them in the years since then:
1997- Finished second in the division.
1998- Finished third in the division.
1999- Finished third in the division.
2000- Finished second in the division.
2001- Finished third in the division.
2002- Finished third in the division.
2003- Finished second in the division.
2004- Finished first in the division. Lost NLDS 3-1 to Saint
Louis
2005- Finished fourth in the division.
2006- Finished second in the division. Gained NL wild
card slot. Eliminated 3-0 by NY Mets.
They have got to get those letters off that uniform sleeve!

Baseball is a marathon not a sprint. The Dodgers don't know how to pace them selves through a whole season this year. They win a couple but then they don't have enough juice to keep it up. On the upside they still have a chance but it may be slim.

Most of the key elements to the offense are very young. (Martin, Loney, Kemp). There are a reason veteran teams usually bubble to the surface in long pennant races. Young guys slip into slumps around this time of year. I mean, Russel Martin just hit his first HR in how long? Plus, the team really doesn't have alot of power.

The pitching is pretty solid. Penny and Saito are outstanding. But dude, you guys are running Brett Tomko out there every 5 days. That's not going to feed the bulldog.

Here's the good news. I think that the D'Backs are doing it with smoke and mirrors. Their youth will catch up to them in the end. Actually, I still like the Padres to win the division.

Bottom line, you just aren't going to win a lot of games when all your offense can muster is 7 or 8 singles.

Edit: I meant Kemp. Originally I said Werth. In addition, Ethier is another young guy that you can't expect to win you games in pennant chases.

injuries to the pitching staff and their obsession with small-ball. little likes to play too many players. and with the injuries comes the overloaded work for people who can't handle it. Bomko and hendrickson i'm talking to you. wow russel martin just hit his 2nd homer of the day, anyways. jeff kents been blowing it and i think nomars getting too comfortable since he came back home. even tho juan pierre aka juan p-error is a great offense weapon, he has a noodle arm. if the balls hit to him, everyone will run on him. plus he looks like that gay black dude lamar in revenge of the nerds. GO BLUE!

Injuries to the pitching staff and a less than stellar lineup. When your top two pitchers both miss significant time to injuries and your lineup has no power to speak of you are bound to struggle..
