Hello Jenny -

I think you have made a good choice and I am certain that you will find hours of enjoyment with these binoculars. They are not top of the line, but they are much better than most binoculars you will find in most stores and way better than the ubiquitous department store el cheapo telescopes. You will see beautifully tinted double stars, star clusters, nebulae, great views of the moon, and stunning views of the Milky Way. You will easily see the Andromeda Galaxy, and should be able to get reasonable but small planetary views as well. From a dark site, you will be able to see all kinds of stuff. You might want to get a simple tripod to lighten the load a little. Enjoy!

I agree with aero_engr that these are probably a really good choice, though I might lean a little more towards the Orion Scenix 10x50, which I've seen reviewed favourably in many places. I own 7x50, 10x50, and 15x70 binoculars, but it's the 10x50s I use 99% of the time for astronomy. Mine are Celestron too, but their more expensive discontinued "Pro" model.

10 X 50 is probably the most common size. Personally I like a nice hefty pair of 70 mms. But look around before you buy. Celestron is high quality but also may be a bit more expensive than you need. I'll bet you can find plenty of decent 10 X 50s for less. Don't forget e-bay. I went binocular hunting there once and the choices were endless.

It's not bad.

It will be a bit big, bulk and heavy, but not bad.

Great for bird watching, boat watching. You can probalby see some craters on the moon. Might be able to see brighter moon or two of Jupiter.
