Do you mean that you want to see a woman gynecologist?

You may want to start by telling your mom that you are concerned about your periods being irregular after 3 years and that you think that it is time to see a gynecologist.

It's not abnormal for irregular periods to still happen but it is a good idea to talk about it with your doctor. And it is a good idea to see a gynecologist regularly after you start menstruating and Definately by the time you are 15.

Maybe it would be best to talk to your mom about seeing a gynecologist first. Than you can talk to the gynecologist about birth control pills for your periods and it will be easier and feel less wierd to talk with your mom about getting them with medical advice and prescription.

BTW anything you say to your doctor is between you and her because of doctor-patient confidentiality ethics. Also a pediatrician or IM doctor or a nurse practitioner can prescribe birth control pills for you. And you don't need parent permission to get a prescription for birth control in most states.

Good luck and all the best! :)

Please feel free to email me if you have more questions about this. :)

I know how you feel I had the same problem when I was your age but my mom and I were not close at all. Tell her that you are concerned about how they are irregular and maybe tell her that you were talking to your friends about it and that they all have been to the Dr. already for check-ups so maybe you should go to just to make sure everything is ok. Oh and I didn't mention that I wanted to be on birth control I let my Dr. know I did and then I came out and told my mom that the Dr. decided to put me on it to fix the problem. Sometimes when parents hear birth control they freak out for the wrong reasons. Good luck.

Your mom is probably just as uncomfortable talking about it as you... but I bet she'd be relieved to know you want to get on it to control your periods and not for other reasons. I'm in the same boat you are, and the pill has been a lifesaver for me. I would just approach her and tell her how bad your periods are (maybe she's had the same problem) and say that you've heard birth control can help regulate them and make them more bearable. If you absolutely don't feel comfortable talking to your mom about it, you can get the pill without parental consent some places, depending on where you live.

Just go to your mom and tell her that you really don't like having irregular periods because....fill in the blank with an inconvenience it causes you. Also ask her to take you to the doctor because you want to make sure everything is ok, like you don't have any other type of problems. Chances are, she'll take you to the doctor, and the doctor may end up giving you birth control to regulate them.

Relax, your Mom probably isn't sure how to talk to you about this kind of stuff either. :) Just ask her if you two can go see a woman doctor you heard about and see about getting help with your irregular periods. Sounds like you've already done your homework on this one, so your Mom will most likely be relieved and proud of the fact that you're taking such an active role in your own health and well being :)

Tell your mom that your periods are irregular. Ask her if she can take you to the ob/gyn, because most girls your age go to the ob/gyn at around 15-16.

Tell your mother that you learned that it is important for young women your age to meet with a gynecologist, and ask her who she uses, and if she would please make an appointment for you.
