You pose an interesting and disturbing question. If such an event were to come to pass I think Bush would try to find a way to extend his term, but would be unsuccessful. As alluded to by others, the President is restricted to serving only 2 terms by the Constitution. However, this restriction is by the 22nd Amendment which meant prior to this, a President could serve as long as he is elected. GW Bush will not remain president for two reasons:

(1) The Vietnam War involved several presidencies; Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, and Ford. So the idea that a president needs to extend his term during "wartime" is bogus.
(2) An amendment to the US constitution would be needed for Bush to extend his term. This would mean that 3/4 of Congress to agree on the term extension proposal and 3/4 of the state legislatures need to approve it. The senate can hardly agree now, needing just 2/3 majority to pass some of the proposals coming from the House.

No way. Iran would probably not be a hard opponent to whip and some of the troops in Iraq might appreciate the change in mission from bus stop guards to Iran's worst nightmare. It would take a national emergency like never before right at inauguration time and even then I don't think W would be able to fix it. No one else would think so either.

George W Bush could desire to no longer have contested for third term as leaping solar rightly pointed, US shape does no longer enable. even with the incontrovertible fact that, why do you think of modern president is a Muslim? modern president is born to a Muslim father yet working in the direction of Cristian. and that i don't understand why do you think of he's to any extent further perfect than Bush? for the duration of Bush presidency, their grow to be a substantial attack, and he taught lesson to them, and by using modern President's term, 2 tries have been made in final 5 months, as quickly as on twenty 5th of December whilst terrorist tried to explode a passenger flight, and 2nd in the present day whilst they tried to explode circumstances sq. by employing planting a motor vehicle bomb, and the two the circumstances no longer because of the fact US grow to be alert yet US grow to be fortunate they escaped assaults. So how is modern management extra stable or clever then previous one? i do no longer think of it any basic to evaluate modern president with Bil Clinton and JFK, its too early to return to any end approximately President Obama, if I could desire to end in the present day, i visit evaluate him to a effectual Orator and a failed President. And by employing the way, i'm a Obama fan, and that i'm no longer a brilliant supporter of George W Bush.

No, despite my respect for what he has done, despite being a Democrat myself, I would fight to prevent that. I want a Lieberman in office (I know, not much change, but I have to vote what I believe).

We will never have a king. Based on the ethics of the man and his refusal to let polls affect his decisions, I doubt highly he would accept it even if offered,...

...even three times.

In case you hadn't noticed, he can't. Despite all the hysterical propaganda from the left, his administration has obeyed the law far more than any Democratic administration in the last fifty years. That makes it pretty conclusive, he'll be gone in January of '09.
