Although taxes were lowered too. The colonies had paid the lowest amount anywhere in the Empire (average in Britain 26 shillings, average in America 1 shilling). This upset many Boston smugglers who were making a tidy profit fom tea...

Also, ignore an earlier poster who says not to open a British history book. We always give an unbiased opinion, even if it's to our detriment.

Those colonials can pay their own way. We've sent troops over to defend them from the French and Indians and that was expensive. We have to maintain a military presence there now and that's expensive. And those colonial ingrates are complaining about a few little taxes?
