#1 laptop is fully functional--except for the LCD screen. I have an S-Video cable to connect the laptops but I really don't know how to proceed.

Borrow a CRT monitor and connect it to #1 Laptop.

If you have XP on both computers, you can connect the computers directly with another computer.

You cannot copy programs, applications successfully.

Be careful not to copy and over-write any operating system files. If you over-write your operating system files you may destroy it.

See below:

To make a direct network connection by using a DirectParallel cable
You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings might also prevent you from completing this procedure.

Open Network Connections.
Under Network Tasks, click Create a new connection, and then click Next.
Click Set up an advanced connection, and then click Next.
Click Connect directly to another computer, click Next, and then do one of the following:
If you want your computer to act as the host (your computer contains the information you need to access), click Host.
If you want your computer to act as the guest (your computer accesses information on another computer), click Guest, and then click Next.
In Device for this connection, click Direct Parallel (LPT1) and then click Next.
Follow the remaining instructions in the Network Connection Wizard.
Notes

To open Network Connections, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Network Connections.
A direct network connection that uses a DirectParallel cable requires a stand-alone computer running Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

Good Luck.

hmm, i dont think you can really do it that way. the only way i can think of is to take the hard drive out and put it in a working laptop, but then there comes hardware compatability issues. If the laptop isnt too old, you might be able to get the screen replaced, but im not sure if that is available.
