I have a learning disability and never did good on tests.I read all the time and yet I was told to get
a job where reading skills are not important. That
was a insult to me.When I went through bureau
on vocational rehabilitation they told me forget
college or any higher education,go to trade school.
I personally do not feel a trade would be a good match for me,I hate working with my hands,I
would rather work using my mind. There is no
way I will touch a trade school.I read all the time,
it was tests that were my stumbling block.
Why should I do something I do not want to do?

Maybe since you have a "learning disabilty" the counselor or whomever thought it would be in your best interest to not focus your learning using reading... However, you may just need a tutor or a better way of learning if it's difficult for you. I would maybe try and take some college courses at a community college and try to see the best way for you to learn.. Since you know yourself best- I stumble with tests.. I went to college and it was frustrating for me.. I eventually dropped out.. Not because I wasn't "smart", but because I have a hard time taking math tests.. Studies show the same portion of the brain that relates "anxiety" is also the part that helps with math and numbers so the combo makes me test terribly.. I'm much better in reading/writing... So, at least try college and see how you do... Look for tutors if you are struggling and try and chat with your teachers as often as possible if you need extra attention. Good luck...

Well you're grammar is great my friend. Whoever told you, you had a learning disability may have been too critical. You need to work on your study skills. An untried method that worked for a kid at my school, was writing everything he had to study on his mirror at home in wipe off marker. Read it in the morning then at night. Straight A's and he was supposed to be 'slow'. Don't let anyone you can't do something. You just gotta figure out how to do it.

Well screw them. Do what you want to do. Phil Rizzuto was told he could never be a baseball player because he was too small. He's in the Hall of Fame. If you want to go to college, you WILL find a school that will take you.

Dont give up until you drink from the silver cup. Go for your dreams buddy. And dont let "them" tell you otherwise.

If you have a diagnosed LD then look into support services at the college of your choice...I am a believer in community college first then larger...that would give you a chance to see what you would like to do, while seeing if there are support systems out there for your schooling. Setting yourself up to succeed is very important....Good Luck.

That's right, you do what you want to do. Don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't do it. Throughout history there have been many people who overcame the odds and went on to do things that others did not believe they could do.
