does it really get them clean enough and does it damage the nipples?

Most bottles can be washed in the dishwasher. It not only gets them clean but also sanitizes them, which washing them by hand cannot do. Most nipples can go in the dishwasher, but some you can't read the package they came in. The brown playtex ones cannot be washed in the dishwasher.

yes, it really does get them clean enough. Yes, it is safe. I would always wash the bottles by hand first, then use a dishwasher to sanitize. The water gets plenty hot enough to kill most everything. Damage to the nipples actually occurs faster by boiling. It breaks down the latex and rubber at a faster rate because the water is hotter. (For proof of this, boil a nipple for 3 mins, let the water cool just a bit, then pour out the water and look at all of the rubber residue on the inside of the pot)

Nipples do wear out over time, and you should check them for damage after every washing, whether you boil or use a dishwasher.

The best option, however is to do neither. At most babies-r-us stores, you can get a bottle sanitizer, which uses steam to sanitize the bottles and nipples. This is the safest option available to the general public at this time.

It is safe. None of the nipples ever got damaged when I washed them in there. I do rinse out the bottles after taking them out of the dishwasher though. Some dishwashers have the option to sterilize too.

It is safe to put them in there but I wouldn't put the nipples in the dish washer. But who am I, I have never even turned my dishwasher on. I have always hand washed my bottles and nipples, I just feel a little bit more at ease. Good Luck!!!

It's safe if they aren't #7 plastic.. That plastic is believed to have a cancer causing agent in it that when heated may cause cancer... It's been under debate recently... If the bottles become hazy looking they should be discarded.. In time the dishwasher will damage the nipples... If you are worried put them briefly in a pot of boiling water... The old fashioned way.. Good luck

You can wash baby bottles, bottle caps, and nipples in the dishwasher. If you wash them by hand, wash them in warm water with dish soap. Rinse well and then boil for five minutes.

I've seen ppl put them in dishwashers plenty of times. I mean if you are really busy with your child, do you really have time to wash them by hand?? I say put the bottles in the dishwasher and the nipples wash by hand. compromise.

From watching my sisters (a total of 6 kids) They have always hand washed the bottles and boiled the nipples

Yes, it's safe (top rack). The nipples will probably get funny looking in the hot water - unless you get the clear silicone nipples.

The dishwasher actually sterilizes them because the water gets so hot.

No, it is the best way to sterilize them...Just make sure to put the nipples in the silverware container so they don't get lost in the wash. If you don't want to do that then boiling everything for 5 min past boiling start is the best way to sterilize.
