if you want it off, you must bypass the belt past the supercharger pulley
My buddy has bypassed his on his ford lightning supercharged and it runs fine!

Depends on the type. Centrifugical types & turbo(super) chargers utilize waste gates to control boost levels & there are kits to make them adjustable during operation. Rootes types can still have flow past them when the rotors aren't turning, but, air flow is restricted. I've seen cars at the drag strip throw a belt & still drive the rest of the way down the track. I've heard of some people adapting electric-type pulley clutches ( like on A/C compressors) to work with the Gilmer belt pulley. Haven't seen one though. That would probably cost a bunch in machine shop work. If it's because it's costing a lot in gas to run it all the time, try buying a new pulley (smaller) to underdrive the 'charger at a lower boost. You'll lose some performance though.
Nope, was working on Detroit Diesels long before that movie came out. Tell me, what does 6-71 on a GMC Rootes- type blower mean?

The solid answer is no. A supercharger is basically a forced air induction system. Turning it off would mean the parts inside would stop moving, stopping any and all air to your engine, choking it to a stall.
If you're looking for a way to have the extra horsepower available to you, but don't want it all the time, I would suggest letting off the throttle a little bit...that is the only way.

NO is the best answer. You could do some wild and radical things to get it to turn off, but you are getting into Star Wars stuff. (Well that might be an exaggeration, a little) but you get the idea.
