True conservation is about using less rather than alternative means. Making a true impact means giving up and doing with less. If they are serious about leading the way to making change, shouldn't they set the example?

I find it amusing that so many people seem to confuse Al Gore's interest in the environment with claims of being the Dali Lama or the Christ. He's already devoting significant amounts of time and energy spreading the word about global warming. He has *altered* his material possessions, using only alternative energy for his homes. Yes, he flies on a jet, because it is practical transportation for someone doing international business (which he is).
How is it you think that unless he gives up all material possessions, he's somehow a hypocrite? He's making an effort relative to his station. That's more than a lot of people do.
ETA: To Dez604 - the private jet is also far more practical for someone requiring the security that a former vice president needs. If Gore is a hypocrite, then so is every divorced person who talks about preserving the sanctity of marriage.

Says who? If I use wind power in place of coal, I'm 100% carbon free. That's a true impact. You don't have to live like a monk - that's a crock.

Vaughn, here's the deal, if your gonna preach to people on how to live and change there lives because of your beliefs, Then you need to be doing it better than the next guy, it's called leading from the front, but most liberals lead from the rear, Plain and simple, if your gonna be a spokesperson, you better be doing it cleaner and better than anyone else, and if you don't, than you are a hypocrite, Private Jets Put more co in the air in one flight, than the average citizen does in a year. Are you implying the "champions" of global warming are hypocrites?
If they gave all that stuff up, who would be spreading the message? Look at all the "good" they're doing. Sure, they could give all that money to the poor, but they would die of global warming if they did not use the money themselves to...what was the question again?
