I recently gave my sister my leopard geckos, and she said my oldest one, shes about 5 yrs old eye is swelling a little bit and her tail is getting a little skinnier. She's not moving around a lot and she keeps licking her eye. Is this something to worry about, or will it go down???

Most likely she does have some sort of eye infection. The reason for the tail getting skinner is due to the lack of nutrition. Either she's not eating or she's not getting the calcium and other vitamins that she needs. Some people think taking a little gecko to the vet is weird, but if she means that much to you I would recommend it for the eye problem.

As for the tail, watch how much she eats. I don't know what she is being fed, but it's good to coat the food that is given to her in calcium powder, which you can get from any pet store, they also have a powder that contains various vitamins and minerals in one bottle.

The only other thing I can tell you is to try giving her a bath. If there is only something in her eye then you can try putting her in a bucket of VERY shallow water and trickle it over her head, of course, instinct might cause her to close her eyes.

Hope she gets better!

She could have something stuck in her eye that is irritating it, or even a piece of shed stuck in it. Is she on sand? That can be irritating--sand should never be used with Leos as the risk of impaction is too high. Abcesses are more common from an injury or irritant as well. The fact that she is not eating well means she might not feel well. Please take her to a knowledgeable reptile vet asap.

if the eye is swelling it could be a vitamin deficiency or a respiratory or eye infection,

Best advice is take it to a vet

and extra vitamins in the sand and on the food couldn't hurt
