They made them slaves and worked them to death.
They shot them when the natives didn't give them gold.
Just exposure to the Spanish gave the natives diseases they weren't used to.

Besides Slavery.. Disease.

the Natives were not immune to the diseased carried over by the Europeans. It killed more than any war did in those days, they just had no way to combat these diseases.

Had they not wiped out so many, the Europeans might not have beaten the Natives in the long run and may have been kicked off the continent.

Also in Central America where the Montezuma was, they had predicted so they say the coming of Cortez and so because of superstition they allowed a very small force of men and flint lock guns to over throw their Empire with thousands and thousands of troops.

After all that happened that is when they became enslaved. The are the events that led up to it on a basic level.
