Research on classical music and intelligence were only done on children - not on unborn babies. Although there was a slight increase in intelligence in children who were exposed to classical music, there's no concrete evidence which suggests that classical music will actually increase your child's IQ.
I say listen to whatever you like, but stay clear of 'heavier' music, like metal - although that's probably just my own theory on the matter. Also, there's no need to put earphones on your belly, as the baby can hear whatever you hear outside. In fact, studies have shown that too loud music may over stimulate the baby and have a negative effect on it. Listen to music at a 'regular' volume on your speakers.
My baby seems to prefer music with more of an 'oomph' to it. I can tell by his movements when I play different kinds of music which ones he likes better... so tell your sister to 'test and try' and see what music her baby responds to. She'll be able to tell pretty quickly :)

Great answer by someone above who said anything that the mother can relate to but I'll add to that, if I may.
Really any music that makes the mom feel good, calm, relaxed and happy. It can be new age, classical, hard rock...whatever....If it has a calming/happiness impact on the mom, it can only help the baby.
Many theories postulate that emotions that the mother is feeling gets passed on to the baby....just as anything the mother consumes, good or bad, also gets passed on.
All of this suggests great reasons for a pregnant woman to eat healthy, do all possible to be as happy as possible....laughter, calmness.....all important variables in the healthy development of that little miracle inside...
Cheers!! :)

Some say classical, but that theory has never actually been proven. Really, whatever mom likes is best. Music helps keep her relaxed and happy. I listened to a lot of 80's music when I was pregnant. Now, one of my son's favorite activities is having a "dance party" to fun old 80's tunes. He really seems to like them more than other things! I really think they get comforted by whatever they hear on the womb!

Funny that this answer might not seem correct.
But all those times I was pregnant (I have 6 children!!!), I always listened to lullabies. They not only put me to sleep, but I felt good emotionally, thinking that the lullaby was good for the baby in my tummy. And that the baby will be so rested, and not be difficult coming out.

Indian classical track have a relaxing result no longer purely on pregnant females on my own yet on maximum people. besides, Santoor and Flute, you additionally can choose for some good recitals of Sarod and Sitar. Sitar recitals by employing Nikhil Bandyopadhyaya and Sarod by employing Ali Akbar Khan and Amjad Ali Khan is additionally chosen for this purpose.

I have heard that because of it soothing complexity,
Classical works of Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven, may increase the child's potential intelligence.
I'd avoid death metal for obvious reasons.
