Squares of consecutive integers.
1*1 = 1
2*2 = 4
3*3 = 9
4*4 = 16
The next term is 25 (5*5)
Alternatively you could look at the differences between adjacent terms:
1
4 - (4-1) = 3
9 - (9-4) = 5
16 - (16-9) = 7
3, 5, 7 - consecutive odd numbers. The next difference should be 9, and 16+9 = 25.

there could be 2 possible answers
1^2=1
2^2=4
3^2=9
4^2=16
5^2=25
another solution
the difference between 1 4 9 16 shows a odd number pattern 3 ,5 ,7. then 9 comes next after 7.Add 9 to 16 and gives 25 as the next number in the sequence

Hi.I will help you. In the above case the next number must be 25. It is the addtition of the consecutive odd numbers. I will show you how. when you add 1 and 3 we get 4. Here 3 is the odd number. in the next sequence, when we add 4 and 5 we get 9. here 5 is the odd number. IN the first one, we added 3 and now 5 and later 7 and 11 and so forth. i will solve some for you. 1,4,9,16,25,36,49,64,81,100,121,144,169.

The pattern is odd numbers starting with 3 (between the 1 and 4), 5 (between the 4 and the 9), 7 (between the 9 and 16), so the next odd number is 9 (add 9 to 16 and you get the answer - 25)

I think the pattern is 2^n + cos((Ï/2)(n+1)). This yields:
n = 1: 2^1 + cos(Ï) = 2 - 1 = 1
n = 2: 2^2 + cos(3Ï/2) = 4 + 0 = 4
n = 3: 2^3 + cos(2Ï) = 8 + 1 = 9
n = 4: 2^4 + cos(5Ï/2) = 16 + 0 = 16
So, the next four numbers are 31, 64, 129, and 256

25 is the answer.
It is increasing in odd number increments, 3 then 5 then 7, and so on.

The number that you add to each number is 2 more than the number before it [3,5,7,9]
I hope that's right.
