Two things.

Firstly, why is it that nobody seems to care that Voldemort is a "mudblood"

Second (and more importantly) does anyone know what the deal was with the deformed baby thing in Harry's "afterlife" type place? I can't remember them explaining it at all.

Voldemort is a half-blood not a mudblood, and nobody cared because nobody knew.

The baby was the part of Voldemorts sould that remained in tact. (notice how it resembles the thing he used for a body in book # 4)

Voldemort is not a mudblood. He is half-blood. His desire to defeat death comes from the fact that his witch mother let herself die. He killed his father and grandparents because he resented his father for leaving his mother. He sees muggles as weak and subhuman. A theory as to why Voldemort chose Harry over Neville is that Neville is a pureblood, and Harry (a half-blood) is more like Voldemort, and therefore more appropriate to be his equal. And, Voldemort would not have told anyone of his true parentage. Only those who really did their homework would have discovered that he wasn't really a pureblood.

The deformed baby thing at King's Cross was the same deformed baby thing that Wormtail put into the giant cauldron in the graveyard in GoF. That is what Harry was talking about when he told Voldemort "I've seen what you'll become if you don't [feel some remorse]." That deformed baby thing is Voldemort's tortured, mortal soul.

Hope this helped!

Because Tom Riddle create this terrible persona of Voldemort that almost all the wizarding community (including his followers) were more in awe and scared of him to be bothered by his personal biography. Besides, Tom covered his past quite well that only Dumbledore was the only one who was interested in him since his Hogwarts days. Tom disappeared, remember? He surfaced as Voldemort and since he has no friends nor contemporaries, his background remained well hidden. Voldemort's a half-blood (like Harry), not a Mudblood. He got a Muggle father.

As to your second question, that repulsive, hideous baby-like creature represents the maimed soul of Voldemort that was unintentionally put into Harry that night he tried to kill him in Godric's Hollow. The rebounding curse was so great that his soul shattered in pieces and found their way into Harry. The Elder Wand didn't kill Harry, being its rightful Master, so Voldemort's soul was destroyed instead.

That's why Harry told Voldemort to show some remorse because he'd already seen what Voldemort would become if he didn't.

Hi!
Why do you say that nobody seems to care?!
VOLDEMORT cares! In fact, he cares so much that he has to act all mean permanently so people overlook this tiny detail that he considers ruins his life.
What helps him, though, is that he is descendant of Slytherin himself. However... nobody will mess with the "mean kid" even if he is a mudblood.

The "deformed baby thing" as you call it is what Voldemot actually looks like in a higher plane (you know... with his soul all split up in 8 parts...) he's not a complete being being anymore. He's just a lump. Why do you think he's so afraid of dying now?!
It is not quite explained in the book, but one kinds of get it when Harry comes back and you realize that Voldemort had been knocked out too at the Forbidden Forrest encounter.

Goodluck!

A mudblood is a muggle born. Voldemort is a half-blood, his father was a muggle and his mother a witch. And as Harry's question to the Death Eaters in an earlier book suggests, Voldemort is probably going around claiming to be pureblood.

The defeormed and grotesque creature is actually the piece of Voldemort's soul that was inside of Harry, the piece that made him an unintentional horcrux.

Voldemort is half-blood. And nobody cared because nobody knew. Also, I guess they'd be way to scare to say anything even if they knew, or if they believed it when Harry told the Death Eaters at the Department of Mysteries.

The deformed thing is Voldemort's soul. Or better said, the form under which he is forced to exist after his death. I guess, since he tore his soul in so many pieces there's no place for a normal after life or a possibility to come back as a ghost.

For the same reason that nobody said anything about the fact Hitler was half Jewish. He hid the fact. You will notice how angry Voldemort became when Harry called him "Riddle."

The deformed baby was the piece of Voldemort's soul that had been in Harry. It was killed when Voldemort cast Avada Kedavra on Harry, and it was there in the afterlife with him. If you recall, when battling Voldemort, Harry tells him to try to feel remorse, because "I have seen what you will become."

Most people, I guess, didn't know that Voldemort was once Tom Riddle. And even if they did, he grew up in an orphanage, so even less people would know who his real father was. And, only one of his parents was a muggle, so I don't think he's consider a "mudblood" with most people.

I think the deformed baby was more than likely the part of Voldemort's soul in Harry dying.

Voldemort parades around, denying that he has a muggle father. This gives him dirty blood but does not make him a 'mudblood' though.
If you think back to the fourth book when Vldemort was being remade, Wormtail put a nast baby thing in the cauldron, this is hat a huma looks like with a seventh of a soul.

Volemort is a halfblood..mudblood are p[eople who born to muggle parents but half bloods are people who have a witch/wizard parent and the other parent is a muggle.

I think the baby thing was Voldemort in Harry soul whick is dying as Voldemort's wand didn't kill Harry but his Voldemort's soul.
