You could go into labor tomorrow....or 3 weeks from now. There's no way to know for sure.

Many women start dilating and effacting weeks before actual labor begins. I was dilated 2 cm for an entire month! And when I went into labor it took another 20 hours to fully dilate to 10 cm.

Yes, the Braxton-Hicks contractions help you dilate but they are not real labor.

Welll----I had my son when I was 36 weeks, I am now 36 weeks with my second child and have had no contractions. I talked to my doctor about dialation and she said that with your second child you can be dialated for weeks. With that said, don't rule out your contractions to be "just Braxton Hicks" if they are HURTING you and are continuing in a pattern, chances are they are real. A real contraction kind of feels like a really bad diarrhea pain, where a Braxton Hicks feels more like just a tightening.

You can stay dilated for weeks without labor beginning. And they are still Braxton Hicks. Over time, these mild contractions help prepare the cervix for active labor, and will contribute to the softening and effacing (thinning out) of the cervix gradually over a long period of time, days or weeks. True labor contractions are painful, and cause rapid changes in the cervix over hours instead of days.

You could stay 1 cm for weeks. My mom was 4 cm for 2 months. I was 3 cm and 75% for 3-4 weeks. When they finally induced me when my water broke I went from 4 - 10 cm in an hour.

contractions come at different intervals for different people. All contractions are real cause it is pain. Cervix dilates slow or fast depends on the contractions.

you can stay like that for awhile.
when your contractions are 5 min or less apart, you can NOT walk through them, and if you have rectal pressure, or lower back pain, then go to the hosp.
