NO publishers take manuscripts unsolicited. The do take queries. Many now accept them by e mail. But that depends a lot on what your genre is and what publishers are seeking that genre.

That is your job to find out. Get yourself a copy of Writers Market. Or go to the library and use Literary Marketplace. It will take you a lot of time to go through the listings and find appropriate ones that read your genre. Then you have to research those publishers and make sure they are legit by using Preditors and Editors, Absolute Write Water Cooler's Bewares and Background Checks, Writers Wall and Writers Weekly. Remember that the only way you can get through to A List publishers is with an A List agent. They will not accept even queries unsolicited.

Then follow the submission guidelines to the letter. This is a LOT of work and research. And as the author it is YOUR job. Nobody is going to do this research for you. We all pay our dues at one time or another by learning the ropes. Now is your time.

There are many archived answers here at Resolved Answers you can use to help you. Search keywords publisher or publishing. Or you can add me as a fan and look through my starred answers.

Good luck. Pax- C

Hi

Ok, the rule within the publishing world is you need an agent if you wish to submit your work, book, manuscript. Now, the reason for this is they use to recieve so much manuscripts, emails and had to sift through so many before they found a good manuscript, a winner or an author they can work with and slowly get his or book to the standard.

Now, the best way is first, you need to get a book that tells you exactly how the publishing works. I know it can be daunting and I know it can be a new world because most writers don't think about this part.

So go to a bookshop or write and get a book that is a guide to writers and authors. The book will tell you everything you need to know and how to submit, how to lay out, everything but the most crucial of all is - find an agent first.

Now, an agent is someone who is in the area of what you are writing about. What would happen is when you find the agent, you like and he or she likes your work, they begin to do some work for you by:

1. Reading your manuscript and you should not pay for them to do so. If they ask for money, don't.

2. Then they will if they take your book, start with a brief and promising contract, conditions.

3. Your agent will then use their skills and contacts and that's what you wannt them to do, to submit your work. Listen to your agent. They know what publishers look for. So listen to them, ask advice from them.

4. When a publisher is interested the you and your agent will meet the publisher and from there begins a new journey. Don't be hyped up at this stage until things are signed, delivered because this is a world of big talk and sometimes no action. They publish only that makes money but a good publisher, will want to step out of the crowd if the story is good.

Now, what you can do now..

1. Get the book that has contact of publishers, agents, advise and begin looking for agents.

2. Find out circles, association or professional networking organisation for writers to meet. They invite professional authors and agents and that's where your knowledge and break can happen.

3. Keep writing, writing, writing no matter what. It must be your passion no matter you get a deal or not. When it is your passion and you are going out their to do all you can to make contact - then life will work for you.

Below are links to check regarding what you ask and I hope they are helpful but maybe, you want to publish your own book without printing thousands, and you just want one to see what it looks like and want it professional.

This is called Print on Demand. So go here for this:
