I went to see my ob/gyn today and he told me that my uterus was measuring large for 25 weeks. He is having me come back in this week to have an ultrasound. I'm hoping maybe the baby is just gonna be big, but is there anything serious this could be? What could cause this and is this necessarily a bad thing? I'm really concerned now. Please share any relevant stories or info. It would be very much appreciated.

Just wanted to add in that this is my 2nd child and that I'm pretty sure I'm not carrying twins. I've been to a prenatal diagnostic center for high risk pregnancies and they done a detailed ultrasound there so I'm pretty sure they would have detected a second baby. I go in on the 30th to have the glucose screening done then.

Did the doc find any fibroid tumors in any past ultrasounds? If so, it might be growing fast. Has your doc ruled out multiple babies in prior office visits? Are you diabetic? This can cause larger babies.

Yes you could be having a larger baby, or maybe have a lot of amniotic fluid.

They could also be wrong about your due date. My doctor was off with both of my last pregnancies. Kept saying I was measuring small, but it turns out his calculations were wrong and my babies were right on time.

Even with the ultrasound they can make serious mistakes. Nothing is a perfect diagnostic tool.

With my first daughter I measured large around the same time. The Dr's like your uterus to correspond to the number of weeks pregnant you are. (ex. 25 for 25 wks.) My doctor wasn't too worried about it. She said it all depends on how the baby is positioned, fluid, etc. There are many variables. Sure enough the next time I went in my measurement was where it was supposed to be. I know it's hard not to worry, but try to remind yourself that this happens. Babies follow their own set of rules... :)
Good Luck!

Could be a large baby, could be extra fluid, could be that your due date is off. They will know more when they take proper measurements with the scan. It's not necessarily any indication that something is wrong, in fact, many women measure differently than what is expected and have completely normal, healthy babies.

i replaced into measuring 3 weeks forward as quickly as I went for my appt approximately 3 weeks in the past. infant's develop is spuratic for a mutually as, so your physique could have time to capture up. as quickly as I went returned in a pair days in the past, my dr informed me that now my uterus length is commonly used and basically a pair of week forward, so i'm measuring 33 weeks yet am 32 weeks good now. you ought to be having twins, yet you will have greater amniotic fluid or the infant can merely be growing to be slightly speedier and that's all high quality. stable success at your ultrasound :)

He/She probably just wants to do an ultrasound to make sure that they are not off on your due date. If this is a second or third child etc... it is pretty normal to measure big because everything grows faster because your body already knows what to do.
