Well the welfare system has this tendancy to continue the cycle so those on welcare have a good chance to continue to be on it from generation to generation. What was the old saying about a hand up instead of a hand out..........unfortunately our leaders came to the conclusion that the hand out was the solution.
Then you have the people who are made poor by circumstances - weather, drought, etc. You also have people who have or had money and become poor by making poor choices with their money. I think that I once read that 95% of the people who won over a million dollars in the New York Lobbery since it started have filed for bantrupcy.
Lots of other ways too much those are a few ways.

The most valid answer would be that they lack a sense of urgency.

It's sort of a sun-will-always-come-up-tomorrow attitude. Granted, it is very beneficial to one's health and well-being to develop such a vein of thought, but as all entities go in this world too much of something is never a good thing.

Poor people are sometimes just born into a poor family, and stay poor throughout their entire lives by the lack of motivation to attempt to obtain more, live better, be more fortunate. But some people who were relatively well-off may become poor by sinking into self-complacency.

It's a dangerous notion. Most people have been brought up to count their blessings and other morality issues similar to this. However, some people just don't have to ability to know when enough is enough. For example, you can still count your blessings when you're out on the streets because there will virtually always be a person more unfortunate than you.

Usually by not managing their money well, you should start trying to invest money as early as possible, try hard in school and get a good job because when you are 30 and struggling to pay the bills you will think 'why, oh, why did i not try hard in school'

you can still have a social life while trying hard, just make sure you have a good balance

People that live in poverty on the other hand have never had the opportunity to go to school, they live in such poor communities that there are no jobs available for them to earn money. Often the government of their country is corrupt and they take to destroying the environment as a quick way of making money without thinking about what will happen in the future

many ways. Born in to it like in India, or here. Some back choose in life, and some do not care to do something with the life they are given as we are all born with nothing even if with a golden spoon as this can be lost or you can make something from little but the will to do it.
This is what is a main difference between the left and the right. The right knows that with the will it can be done and the left thinks some one else should do it for them.

I would say it is just the statistics. Let's say a young couple take out a huge mortgage, with one of those flexible rates. Ok, all is fine, until the rate skyrockets. Now, the bills they had, are hard to pay. They get the utilities cut off, then they lose the house. If they are fortunate to keep their jobs, it is almost impossible to "bounce back". It is a drag, but life is alot harder, than it was in years gone by. Peace!

You ask this as if you think that we once had money and then lost it. Many poor people are born into their status. It is a cycle that is hard to break out of. A better question is how the rich stay rich. Share with us all!

I think most were born into poverty and have not had or taken the opportunity to get themselves out of it. There are also poor who have made wrong financial decisions, been hit with major financial crisis due to medical or family crisis.

"Become" implies that they had money and lost it. Most poor people were born poor. Not all poor people stay poor their entire lives. A few have managed to become wealthy.
